Billy Kemper charging Jaws yesterday

Billy caught the barrel of the day on his 6'2" x 16" x 1.625" round pin "Jaws" model Kazuma tow board. Billy, just like Matt and Ian Walsh ride unweighted Jaws boards and swear by the stability and performance. Billy's board weighed in at 9lbs and is Magic.

Philip Raya testing the Piglet at El Porto in Manhattan Beach.

This is LA county ripper Philip Raya with his new 5'10" x 19.5" x 2.3" Piglet model. Philip has been doing some cold water"Cali" testing and has been killing good Topanga point and El Porto. We did the Tri fin with Quad option to make the board super versatile and so far the Tri fin setup with the gmb fins have been working well. The quad setup is a copy of the Shibi model and will really make the board fly when the waves get weak and small. One board does it all? so far so good.

Thanks Philip for your great feedback.

Melanie Bartels advancing to the 3rd round at the Billabong Honolua contest

Congratulations to Kazuma rider Melanie Bartels for advancing to the 3rd round of 2009 Billabong Honolua contest. Melanie was on fire throughout the day getting standup barrels at perfect honolua. Check the videos at http://www.billabongpro.com/maui09/videos-vid/139/round-2-heat2

Awesome footage for sure. Melanie was riding her 6'6'x 18" x 2.125" round pin step up. It was a little small for the waves but she still killed it.

Ian Walsh at the 2009 Eddie Aikau opening ceremony

Here is Ian Walsh at the 2009 Eddie Aikau open ceremony. Tomorrow may be the day that they run the Eddie at the bay. Ian has a good shot at winning as he has been warming up in all the swells that we have been having and his timing has been spot on. Ian is my top big wave protege, I have spent 15 years grooming him for this day. Good luck Ian.

Ian's board is 9'6" x 19.5" x 3.25" classic and is based off the Jaws paddle in boards we have had for years. We ride them smaller and narrower than most people because we get much better control and the boards feel much more comfortable taking off late and inside the boil.

Matt Kinoshita and his son Chaz surf perfect Maui

My son Chaz and I surfed some of the best waves Maui has seen in years. One of the local spots was absolutely firing and we were trading off barrel after barrel. Check out the 2nd picture with Chaz in the lip claiming my barrel, I can't think of anything better than taking turns watching each other ride waves like this.
I was riding a 7'6" x 18.5" x 2.5" baby squash classic gun and Chaz was riding his 6'0" x 16.75" x 1.95" classic gun. 6'0" sounds small but is relative in size to my board since chaz is only 95 lbs and 13 years old.
